Vaccination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

Rates of some vaccine-preventable diseases are higher among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children than among non-Indigenous children.

To ensure they get the protection they need, some additional vaccines are available free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children through the National Immunisation Program (NIP). These vaccinations are available from general practitioners (doctors), Community Care Centres, Remote Primary Health Centres, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, Community Health Services, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

What are the recommended vaccines?

Different vaccinations are recommended in different states and territories. To find out what vaccines are recommended for your baby or child, speak to your Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker or immunisation provider. You can also explore more information at the links below.
